Explore ancient capital Sonargaon, which flourished once upon a time as the region’s major inland port and center of commerce during the Pre-Muslim Period. Visit remaining of Bangladesh Old Capital, Folk Arts and Craft Museum. Visit Panam City, a city abandoned by Hindu Merchants, abandoned Hindu Temples, a Primary School fully made of bamboo. Take a boat ride on mighty river Meghna to visit the simple life of farmers on Chars (small river island).

At “Sonargaon” visit the “Museum”, and see all displaying “Folklore Items”, to understand the “Heritage of Bangladesh”. In “Panam City”, you will wonder in a “Abandoned City”, which is once full of people from early of 20th century. Experience the simple life of “Farmers” and “Fishermen” of Bangladesh while visiting the “Chars, other side of river “Meghna.

01Day One: Arrival, and Pick Up
  • Pick you up from your hotel or residence at 08:00 AM. Drive towards Old Capital of Bengal regionSonargon (40 km, 2 hrs).
  • Visit Goaldi Mosque, a beautiful mosque from medieval period, which is built in 1519. This is one of few extant monuments of the original capital city. This mosque also a fine example of Pre-Mughal architecture.
  • Visit Sardar Bari (Sordar Bari), a beautiful palace (Raj Bari) built in 1901, which is turned in to the Folk-Arts and Crafts Museum (Loko o Karu Shilpa Jadughor). This is a great collection place of folk arts and handicrafts from 17th century and onwards.
  • Visit the extended new museum building as well. This new exhibition represents the Heritage and Culture of Bangladesh.
  • Visit abandoned merchant city - Panam Nagar (Panam City), constructed between 1895-1905. This settlements consist only of a single street, and lined around with 50 mansions which was built by wealthy Hindu merchants. Those people abandoned this place during the partition between India and Pakistan in 1947, when British (East India Company) left this region and end their rule in Asia.
  • Visit a Primary School fully made of Bamboo for Disadvantaged Children of the Neglected Hindu Society
    It will be nice if you bring some Candies, Chocolates, Note-Book along with Pen or Pencil to support those poor children.
  • Lunch on a decent local restaurant, and taste authentic Bengali food.
  • After lunch, you will also visit a Char (River Island) by boat, to see the natural lifestyle of Farmers and Fishermen.
  • Back to our waiting car and start towards your destination.
  • Drop you off at your hotel or residence.
  • Say Good Bye.
  • End of the Tour.

  • Sonargaon Folk-Arts and Crafts Museum remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Other sites are open 7 days a week. If you book your tour on those days we will cover every places mentioned in this itinerary except Folk-Arts and Crafts Museum.
Eating :
  • Restaurants are widely available everywhere. There are few types of restaurant you will find, depends on their food, quality, hygiene and price. Our guide will help you to find decent restaurant where you will get the best quality food.
  • Most of the common Bengali Food is very tasty rather than Indian food. But the main difference is that the Bengali Food is bit spicy considering the Indian dishes.
  • Most of the places in Bangladesh you will find some common food like Kichuri (Kichudi / Kichdi), and Biriyani (Birani). Kichuri is a dish make with aromatic rice and lentils and served with a piece of meat or egg. Other hand Biriyani is a special dish cooked together with meat, aromatic rice and added spices.
  • You will find some Fast-Food corner as well. You can also find Samosa (Somocha) and Singara (Samosa) as a snacks everywhere.
  • Tea and soft drinks are very cheap. Mineral water is widely available.
  • We can take you to the Western Restaurant (depends on availability) if you wish (only on private tour) on your own expenses.

Tipping / Bakshis:
  • Tipping is common practice in Asia. There is no fixed limit in Bangladesh for tipping; most workers will expect a small tip, especially from foreigners. Anything from 100 Taka upwards, depending on the service provided by person.
  • At the end of the tour, if your principle guide and the driver have been helpful then you could think about tipping them. The amount can obviously be left to you.

Advise:
  • Booking this tour at least 02 weeks in advance is advised.
  • Required full advance payment to book this tour.
  • You need to wear modest cloths to enter the mosque included on the tour. It’s not possible and also forbidden to visit the mosque wearing shorts.
  • Ladies need to cover their arms and hair while entering the mosque.
  • Shoes must leave outside while entering the mosque and temple.
  • Traffic in Dhaka are incredible sometimes, when everything is stuck in every intersections. You will remain stopped on the same place for long time without even moving an inch. Be prepared to walk a lot and wear shoes accordingly.
  • Pick up time will be at 09:00 AM on Friday and Saturday, and any other Govt. Holidays, as there would be less traffic on the streets on those days. Hotels or residence located on Southern part of Dhaka city, pick up time will be at 09:00 AM for this tour.
